Strongsville Resident Organizes Walk to Benefit Children with Disabilities

Strongsville resident Doris Heise created the benefit Roll & Stroll walk three years ago to assist disabled children throughout the country. This year, the two-mile and five-mile walk will be held on May 22 at the Brookside Valley Site in the Metropark. Proceeds from the events will go to the National Inclusion Project, an organization dedicated to assisting children with disabilities.

According to Heise, the National Inclusion Project was created by former American Idol contestant and recording artist Clay Aiken around eight years ago to help children with disabilities experience all that life has to offer.
The Third Annual Roll & Stroll Walk will begin at 10am and will continue for several hours. The two-mile walk will be $10, and the five-mile walk $15.

Heise said, “We supply water, juice and fresh fruit to the participants at three different stations along routes and back at the pavilion. There will be gree giveaways promoting the Roll & Stroll for the first 100 participants.”
There will also be goodie bags for the children, and volunteers from the Cleveland Metroparks Zoo are scheduled to appear with animals for entertainment and education.

“In the past we have had owls, armadillos, a hedgehog, Madagascar roaches and my favorite was a bearded dragon,” Heise said.

She went on to say, “It takes a minimum of 15 to 20 volunteers to work the event and I am pleased to say that not having volunteers is never an issue. Many folks are eager to help with this fundraiser.”
