The 117th annual Cuyahoga County Fair will take place from Monday, August 5 to Sunday, August 11 this year at the Cuyahoga County Fairgrounds located at 164 Eastland Road in Berea, just off Bagley Road. Started in the 19th century, the fair began as a way for farmers to spend downtime with their families after all their crops had been brought in. They would spend the day checking out new farm machinery, selling homemade pies and jams and playing baseball.
Today, the fair has grown dramatically since its humble origins, and families from all over the area come to enjoy a wide variety of activities, games and delicious food. This year’s special events include a stand-up comedy slash cooking show by Mac and the Big Cheese, an exciting demolition derby, pig racing, a pedal tractor pull, chainsaw wood carvers and many other entertaining acts and performances. The fair will feature live music and entertainment, rides, fun games and activities for kids of all ages, animals and tons of classic fairground treats such as elephant ears, funnel cakes, apple dumplings, ice cream and lemonade.
Fair hours are from noon to 11pm on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday, from 10am to 11pm on Saturday, and from noon to 10pm on Sunday. General admission is $7 and $6 for senior citizens and children between 4 and 12 years old. For more information, please visit www.cuyfair.com.
