The 24th Annual Chalk Festival will be held outside the Cleveland Museum of Art on Saturday, September 21 and Sunday, September 22. The festival is a chance for talented young artists to show off their skills. From 11am to 5pm on Saturday and noon to 5pm on Sunday, children of all ages will have free reign over the sidewalk outside the museum and will each be given a chance to showcase their creativity and imagination.
Inspired by an Italian Renaissance tradition, the festival is the second oldest in the country. This year’s featured chalk artists include Anna Arnold, Bruno Casiano and Robin VanLear with Robin Heinrich.
The festival is free of charge for those who simply want to attend and check out the chalk art. Interested participants can pay $16 for a large square and 24-color box of chalk, or $8 for a small square and a 12-color box of chalk. Groups are encouraged to pre-register by Wednesday, September 18 by calling 216-707 2483 or by emailing commartsinfo@clevelandart.org.
Besides the chalking, live music and entertainment and food vendors will also be on hand at the venue. Last year’s event saw around 19,000 visitors with 3,000 artists chalking up more than 1,000 squares. The Cleveland Museum of Art is located at 11150 East Blvd. in Cleveland. The festival will take place on the museum’s south side plaza and throughout its pathways.
