The fourth annual Cleveland Asian Festival will take place from Saturday, May 18 to Sunday, May 19 at the Asian Plaza located at 2999 Payne Avenue in Cleveland. Voted “Best New Ethnic Festival” by Cleveland Scene Magazine in 2010, the Festival aims to unite local communities and educate them on the culture, traditions, music, food and people of different Asian countries.
The event features dozens of performances, activities and demonstrations on two outdoor stages, as well as a World Marketplace including over a hundred vendors and more than twenty restaurants, caterers and cultural associations offering authentic Asian cuisine. Free health screenings will also be offered at the Health Pavilion inside Asia Plaza. Other Festival highlights include a children’s activity area, games, sumo wrestling and an eating contest.
The event is made possible through the efforts of volunteers from the Chinese, Japanese, Korean, Filipino, Indian, Vietnamese, Thai, Taiwanese and Cambodian communities in Cleveland, as well as several others. The collective group’s goal is to strengthen the identity of AsiaTown and promote Asian culture and traditions while celebrating Asian American Heritage Month in May.
The event is free and open to the public. Parking and a tour of AsiaTown are also free of charge. For more information, please visit the Festival’s official website, www.ClevelandAsianFestival.org.
