On July 17, more than twenty of the fine restaurants Cleveland’s Tremont neighborhood is known for took to the streets to showcase their offerings in the ninth annual Taste of Tremont affair.
Under the sweltering Sunday heat, the establishments set up tents along Professor Avenue and offered samples of culinary treats such as veal tortellini and stuffed cabbage.
The relentless sun was not enough to deter eager festival goers, who descended upon Professor in droves, with the estimated number of attendees ranging from 15,000 to upwards of 20,000.
Apart from the restaurants’ tents, Mutt Hutt was also onhand to offer dog washing and grooming, and other activities included a mechanical bull that bucked riders in the main entertainment area next to Piccadily’s Fine Art, and a football toss game where contestants were given a chance to win Browns tickets.
Of course, the star of the event was the food. After all, it’s not called Taste of Tremont for nothing. Food vendors sold samples of food like bacon guacamole with wonton chips from Tremont’s Bac, mac and cheese from the neighborhood’s Lolita, tenderloin sliders from 806 Martini and Wine Bar, and a tangy whole shrimp salad roll from Fat Cats.
Some of the crowd pleasers were the chorizo tacos from Tremont Tap House (mild chorizo topped with creamy goat cheese and a zippy salsa), Bruno Ristorante’s eggplant lasagna and of course, the selection of hand-dipped ice creams from Tremont Scoops was a big hit considering the hot weather. All in all it was a great way to spend a sunny afternoon, hanging out at one of Cleveland’s trendiest neighborhoods and feasting on fine food.
