Last night, we wrote about how the kitchen is one of the most important spaces in a house, so if you are planning to sell your home and hold an open house soon, you will definitely need to get your kitchen ready and in the best possible condition you can get it in. Continuing from last night’s blog post, here are a few more things you can do to make sure your kitchen is in tiptop shape before your open house:
1. Consider replacing your stovetop drip pans, or at least give them a deep clean to get them sparkling. A good way to do this without a lot of hard scrubbing or harsh chemicals is to boil a large pot of water with about 1/4 cup of baking soda. Bring the mixture to a boil and drop your drip pans into the pot. Let them sit in the boiling mixture for about 30 minutes before putting them into the sink and cooling them off with running water. Any remaining grease should come off pretty easily with ordinary dishwashing soap and water.
2. Make sure to degrease your stove hood and clean out the filter before your open house. You may need to consult the user manual to figure out how to remove it so you can soak it and make it shine.
3. Don’t settle for just wiping down your granite countertops with an ordinary dish sponge. Go the extra mile and buy granite polish so you can really bring out the sparkle in your countertops and make your potential buyers think they’ve been recently updated. While you’re at it, make sure to keep your countertops clear to give the illusion of lots and lots of space. Put away your toaster, blender, food processor, rice cooker and pretty much any appliance that takes too much space and creates clutter on your now-pristine countertops.
4. Clean out all your kitchen cabinets. Buyers love to open cabinets and drawers, not because they’re nosy about your canned tomatoes, but because they want to know if you have enough storage space. Get rid of any excess clutter and organize your cabinet shelves to make them look neat, organized and most importantly, spacious.
