Berries are becoming super popular these days as more and more medical studies prove that they are packed with nutrients and other good stuff. The thing is these delicious and nutritional treats are only available for picking for a fleeting few weeks. Now that it’s officially berry picking time in Northeast Ohio, here are a few tips on how to get your hands on a good haul of berries.
Be sure to call your favorite berry farm early. Because of the growing demand for them and the shortness of the season, you may have to do a little planning to make sure you get a good supply. Sweet and tart cherries are already being picked, while blueberries are just starting to ripen and will take us through the month of July. Currants are also starting to ripen, while blackberries are expected to be ready for picking towards the middle of the month. If you miss out on getting a haul this month, you can always wait for the red raspberry crops in August.
Here is a list of some berry farms in the area: Rosby’s Greenhouse and Berry Farm, A.B. Phillips & Sons Fruit Farm, Burnham Orchards, Blue Jay Orchards, Voytko Berry Farm, Rock Bottom Farms, Black River Organics, Columbia Berry Farm, Camel Creek Farm and Hillside Orchard & Farm Market. Be sure to call ahead to make sure they still have supplies available for you to pick.
