Summer concert season has officially started in Northeast Ohio, and kicking off the season are Bonnie Raitt and The B-52’s.
Bonnie Raitt will be performing at the Akron Civic Center located at 182 South Main Street in Akron on Wednesday, May 23 at 7:30pm. The show will feature special guest Marc Cohn as the opening act. Special benefit seats are available via guacfund.org.
Raitt, an American blues singer-songwriter and renowned slide guitar player, is best known for her heartbreaking slow ballad “I Can’t Make You Love Me.” She is a nine-time Grammy award winner and a Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductee, with 19 albums under her belt and millions of copies sold worldwide. Her latest studio album, “Slipstream” is her first in seven years, and features a new a unique sound for her. American Songwriter Magazine highly praised it, calling it “her best album in years and one of the best of her 40-year career.”
On Friday, May 25, The B-52’s will perform at Jacobs Pavilion at Nautica, located at 2014 Sycamore Street in Cleveland. The show begins at 9pm as part of the Great American Rib Cook-Off. Tickets cost from $8 to $36.
The B-52’s hail from Athens, Georgia, and enjoyed huge success in the 80’s and early 90’s. Their music is rooted in New Wave and 1960’s rock and roll, though the band has covered many genres ranging from post-punk to pop rock. Their biggest hits include “Rock Lobster,” “Roam,” and the immensely catchy party tune “Love Shack.”
