The city of Brecksville in Ohio will be celebrating its bicentennial this year and to mark the occasion, the city and four local theater organizations have teamed up to put on the hit Broadway musical “The Music Man.”
The production’s choreographer, Jolene McPherson, said, “We thought that since ‘The Music Man’ takes place in 1912 in a small town in Iowa, that would be an appropriate show to celebrate Brecksville’s birthday.”
The show features a cast of 50 actors from the Brecksville Center for the Arts, Brecksville Theater on the Square, Brecksville Little Theatre and the Broadview Heights Spotlights organization. It opened on June 10, and its last three performances will be held this weekend on Friday and Saturday night and Sunday afternoon at the Brecksville High School.
The musical became a hit on Broadway in 1957 and was the first to win a Grammy for a Broadway show recording.
Frank DeWolf, co-chair of the Brecksville bicentennial committee, said, “The entire cast is wonderful. The sets are great, so is the music and the singing. It’s a story about a town coming together, and that’s what these people did to put on this show.” DeWolf watched the show on opening night and plans to see it again before it ends its run.
The remaining performances are at 7:30pm on Friday and Saturday and 2pm on Sunday. Tickets cost $10 and are available at Brecksville High School.
