Brecksville's Bicentennial Celebration

Milestones such as a bicentennial come around less than once in a lifetime, so it was no surpise that despite some rain, huge crowds of residents and visitors turned up to enjoy the bicentennial edition of Brecksville Home Days.

The event was a family friendly affair, with children of all ages enjoying themselves immensely on a variety of rides set up on the midway down the hill from Brecksville Public Square. Prizes such as enormous stuffed birds and bears were won by playing any one of the many carnival games offered.

Meanwhile, on and around the square, residents and visitors feasted on delicious festival treats such as sausage sandwiches, ribs, and sumptuous cherry pies provided (as they are every year) by the United Methodist Women. Attendees socialized while enjoying the grub in a picnic area with rows of tables and chairs. Nearby, various live bands played as Mayor Jerry Hruby and Human Services Director Ted Lux hosted spirited bouts of Brecksville trivia.

Kyle Kissel of the Kissel Bros. Shows, the company that provided the rides for the event, thoroughly enjoyed himself.

“It’s awesome here,” he said. “I like it. It’s a nice, clean community. They are good people who are polite and nice. It’s great that the community comes out to support the event.”
