Celebrate the Lunar New Year in Cleveland

According to the lunar calendar, this Sunday (February 10) marks the beginning of the Year of the Snake. Thus, several Asian restaurants and cultural spots will be hosting events to celebrate the Lunar New Year.

On Saturday, February 9 at 10am, the Kwan Family will perform the traditional lion dance at Asia Plaza, located at 2999 Payne Avenue in Cleveland. The dance will usher in several Year of the Snake festivities. Drop by to witness Chinese musicians, martial arts performers and dancers in action, plus take part in a game of Chinese bingo. This event is free of charge and will run till 5pm.

This year, Asian Town Center’s Lunar New Year celebration will be spread out over Saturday and Sunday, as last year’s event packed the mall to overflowing. Visit the mall from 11am to 5pm on both days. Saturday’s festivities include a lion dance, Chinese acrobats, Japanese drummers and dancers, martial arts performers, an eating contest and a talent show. Sunday’s event will feature the Kwan Family Lion Dance, Bollywood dancers and a diverse selection of Pan-Asian entertainment.

Of course, it wouldn’t be a complete Lunar New Year celebration without tons and tons of firecrackers. Asian Town Center is located at 3820 Superior Avenue in Cleveland. This weekend would be a good time to check the mall out, with its numerous art galleries and authentic Asian restaurants.
