Monday marks the beginning of the Year of the Dragon on the lunar calendar. Astrologers predict that the dragon, a mythical beast that is tough and full of fire, will breathe life back into the markets. On the downside, they say that the dragon is apt to move quickly, with dramatic turns. As they put it, “You can never see the dragon’s head and tail at the same time.”
Whether you are into astrology or not, everyone is invited to have a good time at the following parties in and around Cleveland this weekend:
Asian Town Center will start the festivities at 11am on Saturday with a lion dance, performers, games for kids and of course, lots of food. This year’s show will also feature a hip-hop lion dance, kung fu show and an eating contest.
Asia Plaza on 2999 Payne Avenue in Cleveland will have four lion dances at 10:30am Saturday, 6:30pm Sunday, 11am January 28 and 6pm January 29. Saturday’s performance will also feature acrobats, drummers and performers. Li Wah Restaurant, located in the Plaza, will be serving a special menu.
The Chinese restaurant Bo loong on 3922 St. Clair Ave in Cleveland will host three fun dragon dances, one each at 6pm Saturday, noon Sunday and 7pm January 28. The parties on Saturday also feature performers and require a reservation.
Even if you don’t traditionally celebrate the Lunar New Year, attend these events if you want to do something different this weekend and experience the rich and vibrant Eastern culture.
