The Cleveland International Film Festival has announced its dates for 2013. Next year’s 37th annual festival promises to be bigger than ever, with a full day of films added to the lineup.
The festival’s executive director, Marcie Goodman, explained the rationale behind the decision, saying, “We keep growing but we can’t add any more theaters. We’re already using all of the theaters at Tower City. The only thing we can add is time.”
Therefore, next year’s festival will run for 12 days instead of the usual 11, and will open on a Wednesday night instead of the traditional Thursday. It will run from April 3 to 14, making it the first time the festival has taken place entirely in April since 1994.
This year’s festival broke previous attendance records by drawing more than 85,000 people to Tower City Cinemas, located at 230 W Huron Rd #7256 in Cleveland. Because organizers prefer to keep as much of the festival as possible under one roof, Goodman says that they did not consider expanding to other theaters in the area.
The festival will continue to offer one-night “satellite” screenings at the Cedar Lee, Capitol, Shaker Square and Plaza cinemas, and hope to add a night at the Apollo Theatre in Oberlin once renovations have been completed.
