Cleveland summer movie schedule packed with events and freebies

A lot of great movies have come out this year, and some of the most anticipated films of 2012 are slated to come out this summer. With that in mind, Cleveland’s summer movie calendar is full of events and special freebies for children.

Beginning now until July 27, Cleveland Cinemas’ Free Summer Kids Fest offers family film showing for free four days a week at 10am. Catch feel-good, family-friendly movies like “The Adventures of Tintin” and “Kung Fu Panda 2” at Plaza Cinemas in Cuyahoga Falls on Tuesdays, Chagrin Cinemas in Bainbridge Township on Wednesdays, Solon Cinemas on Thursdays, and Cleveland’s Capitol Theatre on Fridays. One of the most highly anticipated movies this year is definitely “The Dark Knight Rises,” which is the final movie in the Batman reboot trilogy starring Christian Bale. If you want to relive the action of the first two films in the series before catching the third movie, Cleveland Cinemas is holding a Dark Knight marathon on Thursday, July 19. Three different theaters will be screening the first two Batman movies directed by Christopher Nolan, leading up to “The Dark Knight Rises,” showing at midnight. Catch “Batman Begins” at 6:30pm and “The Dark Knight” at 9pm. The three locations are Capitol Theatre, Shaker Square Cinemas, and Chagrin Cinemas. Tickets are available at the box office or online. Lastly, Trekkies everywhere may want to catch the special Star Trek: The Next Generation 25th Anniversary Event on Monday, July 23 at 7pm. Nearly 500 theaters nationwide will be showing two episodes of the popular TV show as part of a new Blu-Ray restoration of the series.
