What better way to cool down this summer than with a good cocktail expertly mixed at a nice location? This summer local mixologists are outdoing themselves by creating unique drinks defined by seasonal flavors, ethnic accents, exotic liquors and fresh fruits and sometimes veggies.
Sergio Abramoff, chef/owner of the Brazilian restaurant Sarava in Shaker Square (one of the best places to get summer drinks), said, “Clear alcohols that really let the fruit flavor come through are the most popular summer drinks. Plus a summer drink has to have some chill to it, and it can’t be too sweet so you can have more than one.”
Following these guidelines, here are some of the best summer cocktails found at area bars and restaurants–all of which have a great summer vibe and ambience, too.
Caipirinha at Sergio’s Sarava, 13225 Shaker Square, Cleveland–This chic Brazilian cafe exquisitely makes the national cocktail of Brazil. A potent mix of rum-like cachaca, sugar and muddled lime, this drink will transport you right onto the streets of Rio. The restaurant also offers its own version of the Russian twist, made with vodka instead of cachaca. Sarava also offers a great selection of non-alcoholic drinks such as summer juices, lemonades and coconut drinks.
Cucumber Margarita at Momocho, 1835 Fulton Road, Cleveland–You can’t have summer cocktails without having a margarita. The tried and true classic gets a fun twist at Mod-Mex Momocho, with cucumber puree, tequila, sour miz, lime and the piece the resistance, red chile lime salt on the rim.
Raspberry Limeade Crav Sensation at Pier W, 12700 Lake Ave., Lakewood–This elegant and not too sweet concoction pairs local Crav vodka with freshly squeezed lemonade, Rose’s lime juice, house-made raspberry simple syrup and fresh mint. The lemonade and raspberry flavors are very nicely balanced, while the mint is wonderfully refreshing. This cocktail is great while enjoying Pier W’s fantastic skyline view of downtown and the lake.
