Berea’s Cuyahoga County fair promises a lot of fun and excitement with hundreds of activities and competitions at the event, which will run from August 8 to 14 at the fairgrounds on Bagley Road.
A demolition derby, reptile show, motocross, bands, square dancing, chainsaw wood carvers, 4-H projects, produce competition and animals are just some of the activities and sights highlighted at the fair. It will have a free video arcade where gaming enthusiasts of all ages can play, a timber show, strolling comic characters, tribute bands and a 1,500-piece kazoo band. The latter, set for 7:30pm on August 10 at the gazebo, is for everyone, whether they have an ear for music or not.
“Everyone is invited,” said Anita Cook. “Even if you have no musical talent but want to be part of a big group, come out and be part of the kazoo band. You’ll enjoy it.”
A new novelty this year is fried Kool-Aid, according to David Stephan, president and in charge of concessions. “The fair is a great value with lots of free entertainment,” he said. “We welcome everyone to attend and have some fun.”
Apart from new attractions, the fair will also feature some returning old favorites. Bob Sculcac, fair director in charge of entertainment said, “Racing pigs are back. It’s something that is very popular and people love it.”
The fair will open with a parade at 5pm on Monday, August 8 and close at 11pm. General admission is $6, children ages 5 to 12 and senior citizens are $5, while active military men and women and children under 5 are free.
