As many as 10,000 are expected to attend the third annual Discover Gordon Arts District Day to be held this Saturday, June 9. The party will be held at Detroit Avenue, from West 54th to West 78th streets, from 10am to 9pm.
The Gordon Square Arts District has become a fast-developing area in recent years, with sixty businesses opening in the past five years alone despite the economic funk. The event on Saturday aims to showcase to visitors just how vibrant the area has become. The event will launch at 9am with free showings of classic cartoons at the Capitol Theatre at West 65th Street and Detroit Avenue.
According to Jeff Ramsey, executive director of the Detroit Shoreway Community Development Organization, last year’s event drew 10,000 visitors, and this year’s event promises to be just as big. A similar-sized crowd or larger is expected to take part in the day’s activities and festivities, which include live performances by street musicians, a neighborhood trolley tour, alfresco dining at restaurants and six different food trucks, and performances on separate outdoor stages by Cleveland Public Theatre and Near West Theatre.
