Hospice of the Western Reserve will be holding its first annual Walk to Remember on Sunday, September 9 at the Cleveland MetroParks Zoo. The event will take place from 7:30am to 12 noon, and will be sponsored by FirstMerit Bank. During the event, participants will walk to honor the memory of loved ones, while at the same time, supporting the special community services and life enrichment activities offered by Hospice of the Western Reserve.
Hospice of the Western Reserve provides palliative end-of-life care, caregiver support and bereavement services throughout Northern Ohio. It is their mission to help alleviate suffering, enhance comfort, promote quality of life, provide choice in end-of-life care and support effective grieving.
Those who wish to participate in the event may register online at www.hospicewr.org/walk. There is a $25 registration fee for each walker, which includes all-day admission to the Zoo and the Rainforest, a pancake breakfast, entertainment, prizes, goody bags and more. Participants are encourages to bring photos or mementoes that will be posted on a special memorial tribute board. Bear in mind that these will not be returned.
Participants may also purchase raffle tickets online or on the day of the walk for $10 each for a chance to win a sporty 1937 Jaguar Replica convertible donated by the family of a former patient. The winning ticket will be drawn at the Zoo.
Funds from the event will go towards supporting seriously ill patients in the final stage of their life and their caregivers; Peaceful & Proud, a specialized care program for veterans; Hospice of the Western Reserve’s pediatric palliative care program; grief, trauma and bereavement counseling in schools and the community; music and art therapy; and the granting of terminal patients’ unfulfilled wishes.
