If you’re looking for something to do with your little ones on a Tuesday, why not check out Lake Metroparks Farmpark, a family-oriented science and cultural center devoted to agriculture, farming and country life. Open from 9am to 5pm Tuesday through Sunday, the Farmpark is located at 8800 Euclid Chardon Road in Kirtland and features an amazing three-acre corn maze, Plant Science Center, barnyard full of fascinating animals, and fun wagon rides.
Visitors can earn how to milk dairy cows in a hands-on experience, learn how cheese is made, and even help make ice cream the old-fashioned way on weekends and during special events! Kids will enjoy seeing pigs, sheep, chickens, rabbits, and turkeys in the Well Bred Shed, while the Barnyard houses llamas, alpacas, chickens, pigs and goats. There is also an Arena where you can find all kinds of horses, including draft horses, light horses and miniatures. The Plant Science Center houses a Great Tomato Works hydroponic exhibit and a greenhouse, and visitors may learn how renewable energy is harvested from the wind and sun. Lastly, drop by the Woodland Center to learn how maple syrup is made, and purchase a jar of the Farmpark’s own pure maple syrup.
Admission ranges between $4 to $6, with Farmpark members and children younger than two years old getting in free. For more information about Lake Metroparks Farmpark, please visit www.lakemetroparks.com.
