It’s a sad and harsh reality that even in a first world country such as the United States, many men, women and children still go hungry. Many of them live from one day to the next never knowing when their next meal will be or where it will come from. The Cleveland Foodbank is a home grown organization that supplies a majority of the food used in local hot meal sites, shelters and food pantries. They also provide food to child care centers, group homes and programs for the elderly.
On Sunday, April 14, the Cleveland Foodbank is holding an event called Market at the Foodbank, which will take place from 6 to 8:30pm at the group’s headquarters on South Waterloo Road in Cleveland. The event will give visitors a chance to see how the organization’s distribution facilities operate, moving tons of food to different soup kitchens, food pantries and neighborhood centers throughout Greater Cleveland. It promises to be an eye-opening and educational experience, while still offering fun and a good time to those who attend.
Many of Northeast Ohio’s best chefs and restaurants will participate in the event to offer samples of their food. Some of these include Zachary Bruell’s five restaurants, namely Parallax, Table 45, L’Albatros, Chinato and Cowell & Hubbard; Melt Bar and Grilled; Strip Steakhouse and Grovewood Tavern.
Many other local institutions will be on hand as well, including the Cuyahoga Community College Hospitality Management Center and University Hospitals.
