The second mountain bike trail in Northeast Ohio is opening just in time for summer. The Cleveland Metroparks announced the opening of the new Royalview Trail, located in Strongsville’s Mill Stream Run Reservation on June 17. The event will feature one whole day of bike rides and workshops, a beer garden, and food at the Royalview Picnic Area.
Jane Christyson, Metroparks’ director of marketing, said, “It’s a great opportunity to come out and try mountain biking.”
The day kicks off at 11am, with workshops and clinics for all ages and skill levels being offered starting noon. Event goers may choose from a range of clinics offered including Kid’s Skills Clinic for ages 8 and older, Beginner Clinics and Rides for teens and older, and Group Rides for teens and older. Participants must bring their own bikes, and helmets are strictly required for all rides.
According to Christyson, event goers can enjoy the chance to try mountain biking while surrounded by experts and volunteers from the Cleveland Area Mountain Bike Association.
“Mountain biking is one of those sports where people are like ‘Oh, I bet I’d like that, but I don’t know how to get started,'” she said. “This will give them the chance to learn from experts and ride a really great trail.”
Christyson explained that the trail, which winds 10.1 miles along Royalview Creek with two boardwalks and 34 bridges, took just over 9 months and $50,000 to build. She added that most of the volunteers who helped build the trail came from the Cleveland Area Mountain Bike Association.
