The Ohio Historical Society has started its first-ever Passport to Your Ohio history program, which was designed and is expected to continue for the next two years.
Jane Mason, spokeswoman for the Ohio Historical Society, said, “We were looking for a way for people to learn about the sites and learn about Ohio. It’s a great way for people to travel around Ohio and see the wonderful sites.”
How the program works is that participants will a passport with a description of each site and a space in which to put their “stamp,” which is an “I Visited” sticker. The passport also features trivia questions and spaces to write about experiences at each site. With 58 sites in 40 counties in the states, the Historical Society guarantees a lot of interesting sights to see.
Two of these historical sites are in Greater Cleveland. They are the Shaker Historical Museum in Shaker Heights and the Tallmadge Church in Tallmadge.
Visitors may take pictures of their travels and enter the Passport to Your Ohio History Photo Contest. Photos must be submitted by September 14 by email at ohiohistoryphotos@ohiohistory.org. Winners will be announced via the Ohio History Society Facebook page on October 3.
Interested participants can secure the passports at Historical Society sites, participating county visitors bureaus, highway rest stops and the Ohio Travel Information Centers.
