Finding an orchard that lets you pick your own peaches is as hard as finding a perfectly ripe and unbruised peach, but when you do, you should definitely check it out as picking your own fruit is always a great summer activity.
Hornyak Farm, located at 15135 Rock Creek Road in Chardon, lets visitors pick their own peaches from the farm’s 300-tree orchard as long as the fruit is available. Open from 10am to 5pm daily, peach-picking costs $12, and visitors will be given a cardboard basket and allowed to fill it with as much fruit as possible.
The Red Haven section of the orchard has trees that are pruned to just the right height for children and adults on the short side. Hornyak Farm is owned by Matthew Hornyak and his wife Leigh, who planted three varieties of peaches: the classic Red Haven, the Harrow Diamond and the Jim Dandee. While the Harrow Diamonds on the farm have already been picked clean, the Red Havens and Jim Dandees should be available all through next week, so interested visitors should pay a visit to the farm soon.
