Alaskan singer-songwriter Jewel will perform at a special show on Saturday, March 23 at the Lakewood Civic Auditorium located at 14100 Franklin Boulevard. Jewel, whose last name is Kilcher, gained popularity in the 90’s with such hits as “Who Will Save Your Soul,” “You Were Meant For Me” and “Foolish Games.”
Once a struggling musician (she candidly shares how she at one point lived in her car for a while as she tried to make it in the music industry) she is now married to professional bull rider Ty Murray and mother to 2-year-old son Kase and boasts a prolific musical career that has crossed over several genres including pop, folk, country, Americana and even children’s music. Her mentors include legendary folk singers Bob Dylan and Neil Young, as well as her father Atz Kilcher, now featured in the Discovery Channel’s reality show, “Alaska: The Last Frontier.”
Speaking about her genre-crossing music and how it has sometimes worked against her and confused fans, Jewel says, “I never really understood that. I don’t know if people perceive music differently than me. It’s like a person might wear sweat pants one day, jeans one day, athletic clothing one day and suits one day. It’s all just music, an extension of myself. I grew up listening to Loretta Lynn as much as I listened to Joni Mitchell.”
Tickets to see Jewel range from $35 to $75 and are available at the Lakewood Civic Auditorium box office, Ticketmaster locations, online at livenation.com and ticketmaster.com and by phone at 1-800-745-3000.
