East Ninth Street between Prospect and Euclid avenues was transformed into a Hollywood stage Saturday morning for the much anticipated movie The Avengers.
Dozens of workers added false exteriors to buildings, while others transformed the interiors of buildings in order to prepare for a filmless run through of scenes to be shot in Cleveland in the coming weeks.
Scenes from Saturday will be “blocked” so that directors can see how they will look once filming starts. Joss Whedon, the director of the movie, was on the set to discuss the scene with the crew. None of the movie’s stars was present as of yet, but in the weeks to come, downtown Cleveland will play host to some of Hollywood’s hottest stars.
The movie, which is scheduled for release in 2012, brings to the big screen the popular Marvel Comics superhero team of the same name. It will feature a star studded ensemble cast including such big names as Robert Downey Jr., Samuel L. Jackson, and Scarlett Johansson.
