Stand-up paddle boarding classes offered at Lake Metroparks

Lake Metroparks has come up with another fun activity to do this summer, by offering stand-up paddle boarding instruction and rental at Lake Erie.

Developed in the Hawaiian Islands, stand-up paddle boarding combines a strong core workout with being out on the open water. It has gained a lot of popularity in recent years, one of reasons being that unlike surfing, it is very easy to learn. It is possible to become very comfortable in the water and on your board within just one hour. Stand-up paddle boarding is also popular with women because their lower center of gravity allows them to become quite skilled at the sport.

Kids enjoy the sport because it’s very similar to surfing, and parents like it because they can stand up with something that resembles stability to see the sights.

Lake Metroparks has four boards for rent at Fairport Harbor Lakefront Park. You can take a class to get pointers before you go out on your own. Basic paddleboarding classes will be offered Saturdays between now and August 28 at Fairport Harbor Lakefront Park. Registration is required, and classes cost $15 including rental. Rentals are available at the beach from 10:39am to 8pm every day for $10 an hour.
