The Strongsville Historical Society will be celebrating the 50th anniversary of the Society and Historical Village this month.
The celebration will take place at the Society’s next meeting on Tuesday, February 28 at 7pm. The meeting will be held in the gathering room of the Victorian Lathrop House located at the corner of Pearl Road and Zverina Drive. Refreshments will be served.
The Society will give a presentation about the growth of the organization, as well as share Howard Chapman’s vision to preserve the history of Strongsville in the form of the historical village on Pearl Road.
The Society regularly holds events throughout the year in order to celebrate the rich history of Strongsville. Past events include an old-fashioned ice cream social, an annual Harvest Festival, a Christmas Tea and Olde Fashioned Christmas tour as well as monthly meetings. History buffs can visit and go on a guided tour of the Historical Village from mid-April through mid-October. Special arrangements can be made for guided tours with special group rates. A visit to the Olds General Store can yield such gift items as pottery, commemorative plaques, prints, mugs, note cards, Amish apple butter, old time candy and games, custom-designed Strongsville afghans and more.
