Strongsville Homecoming kicks off tomorrow with Parade along Pearl

The 69th annual Strongsville Chamber of Commerce Homecoming will take place from July 20 to 23 on the City Commons, at the corner of Royalton and Pearl roads.

The summer tradition will kick off with a parade, which will begin at 6:30pm tomorrow. More than a hundred entrants are expected to take part, starting at the corner of Progress Drive and Pearl Road, and traveling south to the commons.

Once at the event site, attractions to look forward to include 18 amusement rides, traditional carnival games and of course, a lot of food. Homecoming organizer Tom Burichin said, “It’ll be huge.”

Live entertainment will be featured each night, with the lineup featuring Cleveland’s Breakfast Club, Chance, Shout and Lawless. For the first time, both the stage and seating area will be covered, allowing performances to proceed no matter what the weather will be.

July 23 is tagged “Kids Day” and will offer activities such as magic by Rick Smith Jr., temporary tattoos and balloon artists to delight all youngsters.

A 50-50 raffle, dubbed “the largest in Northeast Ohio,” will be conducted for the first time in homecoming history. Tickets will be $5, or 6 for $20, and sold for the duration of the four day event. The winner will be announced on July 23.

Event proceeds will go to supporting various community projects. Previous beneficiaries include the Pat Catan Stadium constructions, the city’s fireworks display and the Southwest General Health Center.

Burichin said, “We pretty much give to every organization out there. The participation from our sponsorship has been outstanding.”
