Summer has officially started in Cleveland, and this usually means a lot of music festivals, parades, and cookouts. But don’t think that there isn’t anything for art lovers and the culturally inclined. Here are a couple of art-related events happening soon:
Discover Gordon Square Arts District Day takes place on Saturday, June 9 at Detroit Avenue between West 54th and West 69th streets in Cleveland. Now in its third year, this event aims to showcase the rise of Cleveland’s up-and-coming neighborhood. On this day, the Cleveland Public Theatre and area bars host performances and activities on stage, while shops and restaurants open themselves up to the public to offer their very best. Other attractions to look out for include face painting, a fashion show, and classic cartoons showing at the Capitol Theatre.
Meanwhile, the Waterloo Arts Fest will take place on Saturday, June 30 at Waterloo Road in Cleveland’s Collinwood neighborhood. The first signs of life on Waterloo Road were seen when the Beachland Ballroom and Tavern opened there at the beginning of the century. Fast forward to today, the main street in Collinwood is teeming with life and activity, featuring a strip of eclectic galleries and shops selling everything from records to arts, crafts, and coffee. The vibrant vibe intensifies during the festival–a block party featuring bands, performers, DJs, food and arts vendors, and lots of neighborhood pride.
