Summer Fun program ends with Kids' Dog Show

The Parks and Recreation Department in North Royalton recently concluded its Summer Fun program on July 15 by hosting a Kid’s Dog Show at Memorial Park, where pet owners were given a chance to show off their canine friends.

The judges for the show were Laura Haller, director of legislative services, and Sarah Metro of the Parks and Recreation Department. Dogs competed in five different categories, which were smallest, biggest, best trick, best looking and best costume.

First place finishers were given a trophy, while second and third place finishers were awarded with a ribbon. Each child that attended the dog show was given a goodie bag for their pet that contained a dog bone, treat, ball and toy.

First place for biggest dog wen to a 190 pound English Mastiff named Charlie, whose owner William Lloyd, 9, is a resident of North Royalton. Meanwhile, John Crynick, 10, picked up the prize for smallest dog with his pet pooch, Brady.

Charlie, a Beagle, won first prize for best looking dog, much to the delight of his owner, Ashley Workman, 9.

“He got a bath yesterday and I brushed him right before he walked out,” Workman said. “My advice to next year’s competitors is just to have fun.”
