PlayhouseSquare presents the Take a Hike Tours, which are free, guided walking tours of the historical PlayhouseSquare District happening at 6pm every Tuesday through September 10. The walking tours outline the historical significance of the PlayhouseSquare District with actors portraying important and significant historic figures from the Cleveland neighborhood.
PlayhouseSquare in downtown Cleveland is the largest performing arts center in the United States, second only to the Lincoln Center in New York. Constructed in the 1920s in only 19 months, it serves as Northeast Ohio’s default home for touring Broadway shows, concerts, opera, dance, comedy and children’s programming. It plays an important part in the history of Cleveland, with its grassroots-driven restoration in the 1970s ushering in a new era of downtown revitalization and being hailed by the media as “one of the top 10 successes in Cleveland history.”
The Take a Hike tours begin at the State Theatre lobby and last about 90 minutes. Again, the event is free of charge and tickets are not required. PlayhouseSquare is located at 1501 Euclid Avenue in Cleveland. For more information, please visit www.playhousesquare.org.
