The Cleveland Orchestra presents Mozart Requiem

The Cleveland Orchestra presents Mozart Requiem on Thursday, May 1 at 7:30pm at Severance Hall. Led by conductor David Robertson, the show features flutist Mary Kay Fink, soprano Jessica Rivera, mezzo-soprano Elizabeth DeShong, tenor Garrett Sorenson, bass-baritone John Relyea, and the Cleveland Orchestra Chorus.

The story begins like a work of fiction. A messenger arrives on Mozart’s doorstep with a commission for a Requiem Mass from an anonymous patron. Mozart began the work, but as he did, he became increasingly convinced of his own fate . . . saying to a friend, “I am writing my own funeral music. I must not leave it unfinished.”  And, in fact, he was destined not to complete the Requiem. This final work is a piece of great beauty, powerful, and fearlessness in its visions of the Last Judgement, exquisite in its peaceful evocation of salvation and eternal rest. This concert also features Christopher Rouse’s spiritual, ethereal Rapture and the world premiere of a new piccolo concerto by Gabriela Lena Frank with Cleveland Orchestra solo piccolo Mary Kay Fink.
