Vintage Ohio will be holding its 18th Wine Festival this weekend at Lake Metroparks Farmpark in Kirtland. Up to 35,000 people from all over and out of the state are expected to attend the event, where they will have the chance to sample fine wine from 21 different Ohio wineries, taste delicious sweet and savory foods, purchase art and craft items, and participate in a wide range of entertaining and educational activities.
Aside from the five tents which will house sampling booths, Vintage Ohio will also have a new Meet the Winemakers Tent, where they will showcase the rising quality of the state’s wines. Representatives from eight different wineries will chat with visitors and offer some of their best products made from vinifera grapes, which are top quality grapes used in the best wines in the world.
Donniella Winchell, executive director of the Geneva-based Ohio Wine Producers Association, said, “We told the wineries this year that the wine has to be a gold or silver (medal) winner with Ohio-grown fruit only and has to be vinifera, though we’ll also have vidal ice wines.”
Ohio Wine Producers Association is the organization that founded the Wine Festival back in 1995.
The Festival kicks off at 1pm today and runs until 10pm Saturday, August 4. Tickets are $25 for adult taster in advance, $30 for adult taster at the gate, $15 additional for the Meet the Winemakers Tent, $45 for two-day adult taster in advance, $75 for two-day adult taster in advance with Meet the Winemakers Tent, $12 for designated driver, $3 for children under 18, and free for children under 3.
