Young athletes turn out to celebrate dedication of new baseball fields

A ceremony to officially dedicate the three new youth baseball fields at the Youth Sports Park on Lunn Road was held on Friday, July 15.

On hand to celebrate the completion of the fields were young ball players, parents and city officials. Joined at the podium by Carl Hoering of Strongsville Travel Baseball and former state representative Matt Patten, Mayor Thomas Perciak delivered the keynote address.

The ceremonial first pitch was performed by the city’s recreation director, Bryan Bogre.

The three new fields replaced those located behind the Walter F. Ehrnfelt Recreation Center, and were referred to by Perciak as “first-class.” He also thanked and acknowledge everyone who helped to make the project possible.

“To all the people who were involved in this, thank you on the behalf of the 6- to 12-year-olds who will play on these diamonds,” he said.

The project was financed through a $250,000 grant by the Ohio Department of Natural Resources, awarded in conjunction with Ohio House Bill 562, and more than 2,000 boys and girls are expected to use the facilities each year.
