The 16th annual Cinema at the Square will take place from Thursday, August 1 to Sunday, August 18 at PlayhouseSquare located at 1501 Euclid Avenue in Cleveland. During the festival, well-loved classic films from Hollywood’s Golden Era of the 1930’s to the 1980’s get screened on the largest non-Imax screen in Ohio.
This year, the movies include “Diamonds are Forever,” the iconic James Bond film starring Sean Connery; Orson Welles’ widely acclaimed “Citizen Kane;” the landmark crime caper film “Bonnie and Clyde,” starring Warren Beatty and Faye Dunaway; and the beloved 1984 coming-of-age comedy “Sixteen Candles,” starring Molly Ringwald and written and directed by John Hughes. Other titles include “The Apartment,” “The Princess Bride,” “Annie” and “Planet of the Apes.”
During the festival, all films are shown on an enormous 20′ x 47′ Hurley Super Glo projection screen, which is the largest non-Imax screen in Ohio. Adding to the nostalgia are pre-show organ recitals on a fully restored 1928 Kimball organ, as well as a variety of short films and classic cartoons. Of course, no movie-going experience is complete without a fabulous snack bar from which to choose an array of munchies.
All tickets for Cinema at the Square cost $5 each, or if you are a true movie buff, save 50% on tickets when you purchase a FlixTIX pass, 6 vouchers for $15. Vouchers may be used at any movie and in any combination. For more information, please visit www.playhousesquare.org.
