Race for the Place on June 5 to Benefit Those Touched by Cancer

The 11th annual Race for the Place event is scheduled to happen at Beachwood Place on Sunday, June 5, with more than 3,500 participants expected to join. The event is being held in celebration of National Cancer Survivors Day and to raise funds for The Gathering Place local cancer support centers.

Events being offered are a 5k and a one mile run/walk, both of which will be chip timed. The race starts at 9am on the upper level parking deck between Nordstrom and Dillard’s, 26300 Cedar Road, Beachwood.

Fun family activities such as face painting, games and music will be held in Celebration Village starting at 8am. A National Cancer Survivors Day ceremony will be held at 8:45am just before the race begins.

After the run, an awards ceremony will be held at 10:30am to recognize teams with the most members as well as those that raised the most money in three separate categories, namely corporate, community and school.

Interested participants can register either individually or as teams online through touchedbycancer.org, by calling The Gathering Place, or by visiting its Beachwood or Westlake facilities.

The Gathering Place is an organization that aims to support, educate and empower individuals and families whose lives have been touched by cancer by providing programs and services free of charge.

To date, the annual Race for the Place event has helped raise more than a million dollars in aid of those touched by cancer. This year, organizers hope to raise at least $350,000 net in proceeds.
